On February 13, 2025, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 70 Christians were brutally murdered by Islamic extremists linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militant group affiliated with ISIS. The attack took place in the village of Mayba, where victims were abducted and later executed in a church in Kasanga, North Kivu.
A Brutal Massacre Ignored
While global news outlets are quick to cover certain acts of violence, this massacre has received little to no mainstream media attention. Why?
1. Lack of Geopolitical Interest – The DRC is not a major political or economic player on the world stage, so attacks there rarely make international headlines.
2. Media Bias – When religious persecution targets Christians, coverage is often minimal compared to attacks on other groups.
3. Conflict Fatigue – Violence in Africa is tragically common, and Western media often ignores it unless it directly affects global politics.
4. Competing News – Ongoing political scandals and election coverage in the U.S. and Europe overshadow foreign atrocities.
The Need for Awareness
Religious persecution is a growing crisis, and silence only enables more violence. If 70 people from any other group were slaughtered in a church, it would dominate the news cycle. The lack of coverage exposes a disturbing double standard in global media.
We must demand accountability and raise awareness about the persecution of Christians worldwide. Share this story, talk about it, and make sure the victims are not forgotten.
